 Classic leather sofas are often found in private clubs, luxury hotels, and colleges.  They are also found in stately mansions and even some hospitals. 

 Most good-sized cities have a number of charity-sponsored thrift shops.  By doing a little investigation, you will probably find that one or two of those shops commonly have high-quality furnishings in their inventory.  These “pet projects” of the local gentry may be an excellent source for a classic leather sofa, especially during spring and summer “redecorating season”.

 The other institutions often host periodic “salvage” or “surplus” sales.  While open to the public, they may not be widely advertised.  However, you can usually find information on the time and location of such sales by making a few phone calls.

 Surplus sales are usually held over a one- or two-day period.  Most don’t accept credit cards or offer delivery services, so you’ll need to bring a wallet full of cash and a truck to haul your treasures home.

 Besides leather sofas and other lounge furniture, expect to find office furniture, computer equipment, and sometimes decorative items such as pictures, draperies, or lamps.  Most items are clean, well-maintained, and priced to sell.
