From its appearance in the eighteenth century, it became the favorite furniture of high society and the great lords of the time. His fame made him cross the Atlantic and since then he has become an unrivaled representative of good taste that never goes out of style. Not in vain, the Chesterfield sofas are the furniture chosen to be placed in luxury hotel suites, in exclusive clubs and in the halls of homes with an elegant decoration, just as it was done in 1700 with the first Chester.
The upholstery of the Chesterfield sofa is its most notable and distinctive feature. To it they add a robust structure and a backrest and armrest at the same height, with rounded edges and short legs of wood. This form has served as inspiration for the creation of other similar seats but the Chesterfield was a pioneer at the time, unique and unmistakable.
According to the story, the Chesterfield sofa was not intended to be a comfortable seat, but responded to the need for the elegant gentlemen of the time to maintain an upright sitting position, thus preventing the suit from getting wrinkled.
Although, the essence of the first Chesterfield remains in its modern versions, a feature that did change over time was its comfort. Nowadays these seats have very soft seats, well padded that invite to rest. Also, features have been added without losing elegance, so you can find sofa bed type and chaise longue.
The originals were made of leather, being a noble material by nature that only improves with time, creating a striking and appreciated patina product of aging. The traditional colors were brown, different shades of green and burgundy, the latter is the favorite of many and looks great in the popular American "lofts".
Currently and to be more affordable, they are made in synthetic leather or synthetic leather, which in addition to being very aesthetic, has a special anti-stain treatment that makes it low maintenance. However, this may not be the best option in hot areas.
Likewise, a very popular upholstery and sought after because it is very pleasing both to the eye and to the touch is the velvet. It is possible to find it in various colors, which makes the experience of finding a tone according to the decoration of the room more interesting.
Cotton, chenille and micro fiber are comfortable options, resistant, flexible, easy to maintain and good value for money, which do not detract aesthetically from the Chesterfield.
Another innovation has been the replacement of wooden legs with acrylic wheels in some models, with the intention of facilitating the task of moving them from one place to another.
